ZIMBABWE’S tennis siblings, Courtney and Benjamin Lock were eliminated in the round of 16 at the Association of Tennis Professional (ATP) Las Vegas Challenger doubles in the United States of America that ended on Sunday.

After winning silver in Ambato, Ecuador a week earlier, the siblings were looking at taking it a step further in the United States of America but were unfortunately eliminated in the first round of the tournament.

The Zimbabwean duo faced the pair of Alexandr Cozbinov from Moldova and Stefan Kozlov from the United States of America and lost the match 2-0 after losing their sets 6-3 and 7-5 to crush out in the first round of the event.

The pair that knocked them out went on to be eliminated in the following round after losing, in a walk over match, against a British pair of Julian Cash and Henry Patten.

Benjamin, who also participated in the singles event, was eliminated in the first qualifying round of the tournament.

He lost his singles match 2-0, losing both his sets, 6-3 and 6-4 against Alfredo Perez from the United States.

The tournament is part of the Challenger tours which are administered by the Association of Tennis Professionals (ATP). The events are the second highest tier of tennis competition, behind the ATP Tour.

Players who succeed on the ATP Challenger Tour earn sufficient ranking points to become eligible for main draw or qualifying draw entry at ATP Tour tournaments.

In the previous series in Ambato, the Lock brothers finished in second position in the doubles tournament where they lost the final against the Argentine pair of Santiago Rodriguez Taverna and Thiago Agustin Tirante.

The doubles event at the tournament was won by the British pair, Henry Patten and Julian Cash while the singles event was won by Tennys Sandgren from the United States. — @brandon_malvin
