adminMAPUTO. — Zimbabwe’s Davis Cup tennis team player Benjamin Lock won the ITF Mozambique F1 Futures singles championship on Sunday to claim the first professional singles title of his career and second overall.
Lock won five matches in seven days, including knocking off the top-seeded player in the field.
“It’s just an unbelievable feeling to have finally accomplished something that you dream about doing for a long time. I had a great week of tennis and my success here is a tribute to (Florida State University coaches) Dwayne Hultquist, Nick Crowell and Taylor Braziel for all they have done in developing my game to where it is now.”
In the championship match, Lock beat Kentucky’s William Bushamuka 6-4, 6-4. Lock dropped just one set over his five-match run, winning in three sets in the second round against Curtis Clarke of Great Britain, 4-6, 6-1, 7-5.
