A NIGHT walk home turned into a gruesome killing for a 49-year-old man from Mtshatshane in Nkayi District who was fatally assaulted with a log.
Police confirmed that Nkosana Dlamini of Sigodini Village died around 1AM on Friday after being attacked by 21-year-old Thandolwenkosi Moyo, who is now on the run.
According to the police, Dlamini had left Cross Zenka Business Centre along the Bulawayo-Nkayi Road intending to go home but appeared to lose his way. He strayed into Simelinkosi Moyo’s homestead shouting for help and asking for directions.
Instead of assistance, he was met with violence. “Simelinkosi got out and saw Thandolwenkosi striking Dlamini with a log several times on the head,” said police.
Dlamini died on the spot.
The suspect was later spotted packing his clothes into a satchel, allegedly preparing to flee. When confronted by Simelinkosi, he reportedly admitted to the killing. The matter was reported to village head Mr Success Ngwenya before police were alerted.
Nkayi Police attended the scene and Dlamini’s body was taken to Nkayi District Hospital where he was confirmed dead.
Police said the accused is still at large and investigations are underway.
