POLICE have captured a 29-year-old man from Chegutu, notorious for breaking into homes and stealing property, who now faces 14 counts of theft.
Simbarashe Khotiwani has been arrested in connection with crimes committed in the last three months.
Detective Inspector Rachel Muteweri, spokesperson for the ZRP CID, said his criminal activities spanned from November last year to February 13, this year.
During this period, Khotiwani broke into many houses and stole cell phones, cash, speakers, laptops and other accessories.
On November 22, last year, Khotiwani broke into a home and stole a laptop, R1,000, US$450, and a smartwatch, all without raising an alarm.
On December 14, last year, he struck again, stealing US$850 and a number of laptops and cell phones from another house.
He then broke into another house on January 28, this year, and stole US$800 in cash.
Last week on Friday, he stole three laptops and other valuables from another house.
Khotiwani’s luck ran out on him the same day he committed his last crime.
Detectives were alerted at a local shopping centre in Chegutu where he was trying to sell one of the stolen cellphones.
A quick response led to his arrest and the recovery of various stolen items, including a welding machine.
“He is now facing a total of 14 charges of unlawful entry and theft,” said Det-Insp Muteweri.
