AFTER years of waiting, Zimbabwe’s football coaching fraternity finally had something to celebrate on Tuesday when the long-awaited CAF A Licence coaching course got underway at ZIFA Village.
The return of the prestigious coaching programme is a welcome development for local football, which has gone for a considerable period without hosting a CAF A course.
Several notable coaches have enrolled for the programme, bringing together a wealth of experience from different levels of the domestic game.
Among those attending are TelOne FC coach Joel Luphahla, former Warriors Under-20 coach Simon Marange, CAPS United legend David Sengu, three-time Northern Region Soccer League-winning coach Arthur Tutani and Blanket Mine coach Luke Petros Jukulile.
The course is expected to equip the coaches with advanced technical, tactical and leadership knowledge while providing an opportunity for them to exchange ideas and experiences with fellow practitioners.
For Zimbabwe, the resumption of the CAF A programme is particularly significant as the country continues efforts to improve coaching standards and strengthen its football development structures.
The participants will undergo an intensive programme as they work towards attaining the CAF A Licence, which will further enhance their qualifications and prospects within the game.
The involvement of established coaches such as Luphahla, Marange, Sengu, Tutani and Jukulile adds considerable interest to the programme, with their experience expected to enrich the learning environment.
The long-awaited course could prove an important step in strengthening Zimbabwe’s coaching pipeline and creating a larger pool of qualified coaches capable of working at higher levels of the game.
