‘Losing primary polls, not end of the road’

Losing zanu-pf candidates in the just-ended primary elections must now move on and focus on campaigning for the party to win the upcoming harmonised elections. Addressing party supporters in Epworth on Tuesday, zanu-pf Deputy Secretary for Youth Affairs Cde Lewis Matutu said there is always room in the party for candidates who lost in primary elections to campaign for zanu-pf and resist the temptation to become independents.

“Losing the primary elections is not the end of the road and it is not committing an offence. I also lost in the constituency I contested in (Zvishavane/Runde) and I accepted the fate as the voice of the people.

“The time for primary elections is now over. It is now time to concentrate on the way forward for the party to win the upcoming harmonised elections. We must all vote for our leader; President Emmerson Mnangagwa,” he said.

He castigated candidates who use bribes to gain votes saying zanu-pf did not tolerate such practices.

“We must focus on Members of Parliament who enhance development and long-term projects which sustain and uphold the community from the grassroots.

“Those certain individuals who use bribes to promote their own selfish desires disappear after elections leaving people stranded. We are saying no to those people,” he said.

Cde Matutu congratulated the zanu-pf candidate, Cde Kudakwashe Damson, for winning the Epworth primary elections.

He said that Cde Damson had been chosen by the people hence he must make sure their grievances were attended to.

He concluded the address by urging the youths in Epworth to form groups and engage in fish farming.
