Lottery leaves teacher US$50 000 richer

Hall in the capital.
“I am a regular lottery player but this time it was different. I wanted to buy airtime but the vendor did not have change so I decided to buy a scratch card to obtain change but to my surprise it turned out to be the lucky card,” he said.

“I believe in God and in His name. The favour of God finally caught up with me.”
“We are going to decide as a family on how we are going to use the money,” he said, dancing and chanting praises to God alongside his wife Otilia.

Mr Ngarande (54), who already owns a house in Highfield, said he was considering buying a car in the next three days.
“As for my wife, I am going to create a great scene for her which she will always remember because this favour is for the two of us from our God,” he said.
Mr Ngarande said the fortune would not move him to quit his job which he loves so much.

“I have eight children and two are still in school and I will continue going to work for their sake,” he said.
“I still have a calling which needs to be fulfilled and that is giving service to my country as a teacher. If I quit, that will be a raw deal I will be giving to society.”
Mr Ngarande said he would not throw another party to celebrate his luck after the one held for him at the State Lottery Hall when he was handed the cheque.

“I did enjoy myself at the State Lottery Hall today (yesterday) so to throw another party will be a waste of money considering the difficult circumstances I grew under,” he said.
Mr Ngarande refused to divulge the circumstances under which he grew up.

His wife, Otilia, who could not hide her ecstasy, said she wanted part of the money to venture into business and the rest to buy a car and another house.
“We are still to decide, but I guess part of the money would go into business,” she said.
“We also need a car and another house considering the number of children we have.”
