Love always trusts

AT first glance today’s topic appears controversial. In an era where dishonesty appears to be the order of the day, where people take advantage of another person’s trust, you may wonder how it is even possible to always trust someone. It would appear as though the topic is some kind of wishful thinking. Yet in essence love does always trust.

We have spent the last couple of weeks looking at the different attributes of love. We have looked at the fact that love is kind, love does not envy, love does not boast, neither is it proud. We have also looked at the fact that love does not dishonour others, love is not self-seeking, love is not easily angered, love keeps no record of wrongs, love does not delight in evil, love rejoices with the truth and it always protects. If these different attributes and characteristics of love are applied correctly, it becomes effortless to always trust in love.

Trust is defined as a firm belief in the reliability, truth or ability of someone or something. The one way you can get to a point of completely trusting someone is if that person proves themselves as trustworthy. If someone constantly lies or cheats, there is no way you can trust them. If you are the one who constantly lies and cheats, there is no way someone else can trust you. In such circumstances it becomes highly impossible to experience and walk in the kind of trust that love has.

When you prove yourself as an untrustworthy person, people will always be cautious when dealing with you to protect themselves from hurt and disappointment. As an untrustworthy person, the people you relate to create these invincible barriers when relating to you. These invincible barriers become a stumbling block in your relationships and you do not get to experience what it feels like to be trusted in love, you do not get to experience the fruits of the love always trusts dimension.

If however, you prove yourself as a trustworthy person, the people you love will trust you, they will not doubt you, they will not walk on eggshells when relating to you. The people you relate to will open up to you and this helps build a deep and intimate connection. As a married person, if your spouse does not trust you, you lose out on the depth and intimacy associated with trust. Intimacy is not just a term associated with a physical connection; it is a term that describes a heightened level of connection between two people. So when we talk about intimacy, it is not just the physical element you should think of. In our topic of discussion today, the kind of intimacy being made reference to is an emotional and intellectual kind of intimacy. It is a soulful kind of intimacy. The kind of intimacy that results when one trusts you in thought and heart.

Due to the fact that love is patient, kind, it does not envy, it does not boast, neither is it proud, it does not dishonour others, it is not self-seeking, not easily angered, keeps no record of wrongs, does not delight in evil, rejoices with the truth and always protects; love always trusts. The point at which you arrive at the stage where you can boldly say love always trusts is a point in which you would have applied and fulfilled all the characteristics of love listed above that precede the part that says, ”love always trusts”.

Trusting, as hard as it may appear to be, is actually something that can be done if a conducive environment is created to allow trust to be established and nurtured. This kind of environment is one of love. Outside of love, reaching a level of trust is a very difficult thing to do, but where there is love and the characteristics of love are applied and upheld; reaching the stage where love always trusts is effortless. You have the responsibility to create a conducive environment for the love always trusts dimension to be established and for it to grow. You have that responsibility in the same manner as the next person does.

If you find people have a hard time trusting you, check which characteristics of love you are not upholding and rectify that. If you have a relationship with someone, be it a romantic, business or family relationship and you find you do not trust that person, check which of the relationship characteristics that person is not upholding and bring it to their attention in a polite manner so they are able to address it.
