Bulawayo folk glow under the ambiance of love

For 24-year-old Ms Simone Barkley in Bulawayo, Valentine’s Day is a time to celebrate the bond she shares with her partner of two years.

“Today is a special day for lovers. People in serious relationships like myself use this day to celebrate love. So I am expecting gifts and a romantic day with my partner,” said Ms Barkley.

42-year-old Mr Makhosi Mpofu, a father of three, sees Valentine’s Day as an opportunity to rekindle the romance in his marriage.

“Life gets busy with work and kids, but Valentine’s Day reminds us to slow down and focus on each other. My wife and I have a tradition of exchanging small but thoughtful gifts.

“This year, I have already bought her a beautiful necklace and booked a cozy dinner at our favourite restaurant. It is the little things that make the day special,” he said.

Restaurants and cafes have also joined in, offering Valentine’s Day-themed menus and romantic set-ups.
