LUBELIHLE Banda is celebrating the success of her year-old Lubelihle Banda Show which was recently nominated for the Roil Bulawayo Arts Awards 2022.

The show which was nominated in the category of Outstanding Television programme has seen the likes of veteran author Barbara Makhalisa, soccer legend Madinda Ndlovu, Senzeni Na? hitmaker Albert Nyathi and award-winning producer DJ Skaiva were the guests.

In an interview with Chronicle Showbiz, the bubbly TV host said her show is a platform for everyone with beautiful stories to tell.

“The Lubelihle Banda show documents people that have gone beyond obstacles. The show documents anyone with a beautiful story to share with the world. It intends to restore humanity, and going forward you will realise that the show upholds Ubuntu more than anything. The Lubelihle Banda Show is aiming at restoring humanity and what we are as Africans.

“I started this show because I have always wanted to own my television show since I was in primary school. When I realised, I was able I then initiated it and put the dream to reality. I am a very vocal person so I knew that managing a show was not going to give me so much trouble. I target anyone with a beautiful story to share,” she said.

Banda said she started the show last year and for her, she says it’s a race she is not finishing anytime soon.

“I started the show in 2021, but previously I used to host a show called Qoki My Legend and it ended in 2018. I wanted to start this show in 2020 but due to the lockdown, I could not. I was locked down in Zanzibar and stayed close to a year there and when airports opened, I came back home and initiated it straight away. The shooting started early last year.

“I would love to see this show grow and conquer Africa and the world. My crew is so supportive and they stood with me from day one. I hope when the show grows, we grow together as a family. I love everyone who works behind the scenes of the show to make it a success,” said Banda.

The young host says the Roil BAA nomination humbled her.

“The Roil BAA nomination got me so excited; I am really over the moon. What makes me more excited is that the show is just a year old and already it has been nominated.

This is a great encouragement for the team and myself. I want to thank those who nominated us from the bottom of my heart. The nomination means our works are being recognised at least. It’s not as easy as it seems, so being nominated means a lot.

“I am positive about winning the award, I hope to take the award of the best television program home. I have faced challenges, making wrong decisions towards the shoot. I guess it was all a learning process. All the mistakes I made were just a learning curve.

Most of the time I would expect everything to be perfect but sometimes things will not come out the way we expect, we correct that and move on,” Banda said. -@SeehYvonne
