LUKHANYISO Primary and Indlovu Iyanyathela Primary schools are this year’s Bulawayo provincial champions of the Ingwebu Breweries inter-primary schools’ soccer competition in the boys’ and girls’ categories respectively.

Lukhanyiso beat Mazwi Primary 2-1 in the boys’ final at the Barbourfields Stadium’s outside pitches.

Indlovu Iyanyathela beat Ntshamathe Primary 6-5 in penalty shootout after the match had ended 0-0 in regulation time to win the girls title.

Lukhanyiso and Indlovu Iyanyathela will now represent Bulawayo at the regional finals pitting the champions of Matabeleland North and Matabeleland South on July 31 in Maphisa.

Collen Nkomo, the Lukhanyiso coach, was excited by clinching the Ingwebu title for the second time after first winning it in 2009.

He also expressed gratitude to ex-Amazulu defender Norman Nkomane, who helped his boys prepare for the tournament.

“Winning feels good. We have won the title before, but we can’t contain the excitement. We look forward to the Ingwebu (regional) finals. We have gotten so much support from Nkomane and we are really grateful,” said Nkomo.

Mazwi Primary goalkeeper Stephen Msipha was voted the boys’ player of the tournament and got a $30 token, while Natasha Nyakufarinya from Indlovu Iyanyathela was adjudged the best girls’ player and walked away with $25.
