Lulu open to offers

FORMER Highlanders coach, Mandla  “Lulu” Mpofu, says he will not be rushing to get back to the touchline but is ready to listen to offers either locally or outside the country.

Sua Flamingoes parted ways with Mpofu before the festive season break due to a string of poor results, which saw the club drop to fourth position with 13 points from 12 games.

Mpofu is now looking forward to a new challenge.

“I am not in a rush to get back to the touchline, but I am open to listening to offers that will help me grow as a coach, whether locally or internationally. I am taking this time to reflect on my coaching career, and I’m excited to explore new opportunities that will challenge me and help me become a better coach. My experience in the Botswana Premier League has been invaluable, and I am confident that I have a lot to offer any team that I join. I’m looking forward to the next chapter in my coaching career and am excited to see what the future holds,” Mpofu said.

Mpofu, who joined Highlanders in 2018 as assistant coach to Madinda Ndlovu, took over as head coach in July 2019.

Madinda Ndlovu

His tenure at Highlanders was marked by lukewarm results, and he was eventually dismissed in May 2022.

Mpofu then joined Masitaoka Football Club in the Botswana Premier League on a one-year contract.

He left the club in June 2023, having taken charge of 34 official matches and leading the team to seventh position in the league.

Other Zimbabwean coaches who have worked in the Botswana top-flight league include Max Moyo, Luke Masomere, Taurai Mangwiro, Blessing Moyo, Cosmas Zulu, Clever Hunda, Jethro Hunidzarira and Madinda Ndlovu.

In addition to his coaching career, Mpofu has also ventured into farming.

Mpofu’s experience in the Botswana Premier League has given him valuable insight into the region’s football landscape.

He believes this experience will be beneficial in his future coaching endeavours.

Mpofu is now taking time to reflect on his coaching career and is exploring opportunities for growth and development.

The Zimbabwean coach has also been involved in various coaching developmental programmes, aiming to enhance his skills and knowledge. Mpofu is committed to continuous learning and self-improvement, which he believes is essential for success in the competitive world of football coaching.

As Mpofu considers his next move, he remains optimistic about his future in coaching. With his wealth of experience and commitment to growth, he is likely to attract interest from clubs and teams seeking a seasoned and dedicated coach.
