A CLEAN-UP campaign along Victoria Falls Road and at Lupane Business Centre has prompted calls for improved refuse collection, public awareness campaigns and the establishment of a proper dumpsite in Lupane.
Councillor Tando Ndaba, who represents Menyezwa Ward 14 under Kusile Rural District Council in Lupane West, said the absence of bins at road lay-bys and irresponsible waste disposal by motorists and bus operators were contributing to littering along the road.
She said some motorists threw rubbish out of vehicle windows, while some bus operators were dumping waste indiscriminately along the route.
Clr Ndaba called on the local authority to improve refuse collection and educate the public on responsible waste disposal.
“Council must improve in garbage collection, people must be taught ways of disposing litter, and motorists should also be warned about littering. There should also be a proper dumpsite in Lupane,” she said.
The clean-up campaign covered sections of Falls Road and Lupane Business Centre, highlighting concerns about waste management and the cleanliness of public spaces.
Clr Ndaba said coordinated efforts involving the local authority, motorists, public transport operators and residents were needed to tackle littering and maintain a clean environment.
