PLUMTREE-based teenage hip-hop artiste Muntu The Living Proof has urged fellow learners to use the school holidays to develop their talents while awaiting their Grade Seven results.

The budding musician made the call yesterday as he celebrated his 13th birthday with a free performance for fellow pupils, friends, neighbours and classmates.

Muntu, who took a brief break from performing to concentrate on his examinations, said he was now ready to return to the stage.

“I am thrilled to be in the music industry. I am talented in song writing and singing,” he said.
The young artiste, whose hip-hop music draws inspiration from real-life experiences, said his songs seek to give hope to the hopeless and guide those who are uncertain about their future.

He encouraged fellow Grade Seven learners to use the holiday productively by developing their abilities in music, athletics, dancing and other disciplines.

“I would like to encourage those who have talent, either in music, athletics or dancing, to focus on their talents during this period as we await our Grade Seven results. To me, success is when talent is backed by knowledge. I believe that education is the key to success. Let us dream big while acknowledging education. Music is where my talent lies, so I will spend my holiday practising with my team in preparation for upcoming shows,” said Muntu.

Despite his growing interest in music, Muntu said he remained committed to producing professional work and was open to collaborations with local and international artistes.

His next major performance will be at the Southern Africa’s Finest event scheduled for October 17 at the Bulawayo Arts Centre (BAC), where he is expected to share the stage with more than 20 local artistes.

“I have a show on 17 October, the Southern Africa’s Finest event. It will be hosted in Bulawayo at the BAC hangout. Currently, my team and I are working tirelessly to deliver our best at the event. We still have more events to follow,” he added.

At his birthday celebration, Muntu performed several of his songs for free and invited those willing to join him on stage, creating an atmosphere of excitement and entertainment.

The event also highlighted how young people can use the school holidays to explore their interests, develop their skills and pursue their ambitions while remaining committed to education.
