Lyford Yadyo wins PAS golf tourney

tournament this season at the Premier Auto Services invitational at Royal Harare.
The Wingate Park golfer beat 15 other professionals. He carded a level par 72 in a tightly-contested round but that could only give him a share of first spot with Kalimazeni.
The golfers had to go back in the field and play two play-off holes, which saw Yadyo dropping in a long putt on number 17 for his par. Kalimazeni had a good chance on the 18th hole, with his drive in the middle of the fairway, while Yadyo was in thick grass on the left. The second shots saw Yadyo on the fringe of the green with Kalimazeni in the bunker and the former taped in for par to win. Yadyo said he had got due rewards for his hard work.
“It is good that I won the first edition of this newly-introduced corporate golf invitational tournament and I hope this form will continue. After this long lay-off it took a lot of self belief and mental preparedness. I would like to dedicate this win to Robert Follet-Smith who had a lot of influence on my career and if it was not for him I would not be here,” Yadyo said. The match that started off early in the morning saw Arkil Yousuf settling for third place after he carded a one-over-par 73.
The Zimbabwe Professional Golfers Association president hailed the organising committee for a job well done.
“I had a good game today and I am happy that everything went on well,” said Yousuf. “It was fantastic and I am happy for all the professionals as we are now having game time. Playing more often is something which we need as professionals and this is a good way for the corporate world to mix with the professional golfers.” Fourth place was shared by several golfers who included Brian Gondo, Ignatius Mketekete, Day Muyambo and Mohamed Mandhu on 75. Pre-tournament favourite Tongoona Charamba had a bad day as he settled for seventh place after a four-over-par 76. Tournament coordinator Mike Mahachi said the event couldn’t have been any better.
“This is something good and we hope to improve from here,” he said
“The first edition is a success and we look forward to more games in the near future.”
