THE Robert Gabriel Mugabe International Airport in Harare was a hive of activity on Wednesday afternoon as Miss Universe Zimbabwe, Lyshanda Moyas, was bid farewell ahead of her journey to Bangkok, Thailand, where she will represent the nation at the global pageant.
The 26-year-old beauty queen was seen off by her family, including her grandmother, Miss Universe Zimbabwe board members and executives, as well as former titleholders Sakhile Dube and Brooke Bruk-Jackson. Also present were supporters and young mothers from the Munondida Foundation, who came to wish her well.
Speaking before her departure, Moyas said she was ready to make Zimbabwe proud at the Miss Universe pageant, which takes place next month.
“I am happy to be representing Zimbabwe. Thank you all for your support. I have worked with a lot of designers on my wardrobe and have a surprise for Zimbabweans,” said Moyas.
She will join 89 other contestants from across the globe in the Miss Universe bootcamp, which begins in Thailand on Thursday.
Miss Universe Zimbabwe 2024, Sakhile Dube, who made it into the top 30 at last year’s edition held in Mexico, offered words of encouragement and shared her confidence in Moyas’ abilities.
“All eyes are on Moyas, and we are very confident she will win based on the lessons and tips we shared with her alongside Brooke Bruk-Jackson,” said Dube.
