Residents of Mabvuku-Tafara join the nation in celebrating the birthday of their legislator, Pedzai Scott Sakupwanya, a businessman-turned-public servant whose footprint in the constituency continues to redefine community-driven development.

For many in this eastern suburb of Harare, Sakupwanya’s birthday is more than a personal milestone. It is a moment to reflect on a journey of empowerment, philanthropy and infrastructural renewal that has steadily reshaped the area.

From rehabilitated roads and upgraded health facilities to educational assistance and youth-focused sporting initiatives, residents say the legislator has brought tangible change to a constituency long burdened by infrastructural decay and limited opportunities.

Mabvuku resident Mrs Mataka says the transformation is visible.

“He has done a lot for us, whether in rehabilitating infrastructure, improving health facilities or providing opportunities to young people through education and sport,” she said.

“He owes us nothing, but he has given us everything. Mabvuku is changing before our eyes, and it’s because of his love for this place. He truly wants to see it differently.”

Over the past few years, community projects under his watch have ranged from drilling boreholes and supporting clinics to sponsoring school fees, donating learning materials and nurturing grassroots sports talent; giving many young people a renewed sense of possibility.

For Honourable Sakupwanya, however, the work is guided by a simple but powerful philosophy.

“My goal is to leave this world better than I found it,” he has often said. “If my contributions to Mabvuku can give someone exposure and a better life, then my mission is complete.”

Beyond constituency projects, the legislator has consistently advocated for private sector participation in community development, urging corporates and successful entrepreneurs to reinvest in their roots.

“We have the power to change lives. If we all commit to uplifting the places we come from, imagine the difference we can make,” he said in one of his community engagements.

His approach, blending business acumen with grassroots mobilisation, has resonated particularly with the youth, many of whom see in him a model of enterprise-driven leadership.

Through creation of platforms for skills development, sport and entrepreneurship, he has sought to shift the narrative from dependency to productivity.

As he marks another year, residents say they celebrate not only his birth, but the hope his initiatives continue to ignite.

Community leaders note that sustainable development is a collective effort, but acknowledge that visible leadership often provides the spark that rallies people together.

Today, Mabvuku-Tafara salutes Scott Sakupwanya for the bridges built, the dreams nurtured and the futures envisioned. As candles are lit in his honour, many here express a shared wish that the coming years bring even greater strides for both the legislator and the constituency he calls home.
