ZANU PF Political Commissar Cde Munyaradzi Machacha has commended churches for backing Constitutional Amendment No. 3 Bill.
Addressing thousands of Johane the 5th of Africa International Church members who gathered for an Easter Passover at Cranborne Open Grounds in Harare, Cde Machacha said churches were an important constituency whose views will be presented to the parliamentary committee for consideration.
He said the congregants expressed that they wanted to present their submissions to the parliamentary portfolio committee in support of the Bill.
“We are confident that their voices will be incorporated for a final draft of the Bill into law.
“As a party we are happy that we now have civic society on our side, we now have all the citizens expressing themselves supporting the Bill,” noted Cde Machacha.
He highlighted that Zanu PF as a mass party, accepted views that came from the majority, particularly those of the church.
Cde Machacha said churches were an important constituency which the party considered in its planning.
“As a revolutionary mass party, we accept the views which come from the majority especially views from the church. It is an important constituency which we consider in our planning,” he said.
Johane the 5th of Africa International Church founder Archbishop Dr Andby Makururu said they were rallying behind the Constitutional Amendment Bill to avoid toxic politics which hindered development.
“The proposed Constitutional Amendment No. 3 Bill, will allow President Mnangagwa to complete ongoing development projects which are underway across the country. Serious assignment must be finished not adjusted halfway. We do want the nation to be occupied by elections; we need development to take place and improve the wellbeing of the people.
“We want the Government to be occupied by creating jobs for the youth, so that they can shun away from drugs,” he said.
Archbishop Dr Makururu said extending the Presidential term would enhance focus on development and reduce constant election pressures.
“Political parties constantly plan for election instead of focusing on development. When the election cycle is extended to seven years, focus will be on development building, implementing, delivering and completing projects which are currently away” he said.
Archbishop Dr Makururu has backed the proposed Constitutional Amendment No. 3 Bill, saying it will allow President Mnangagwa to complete ongoing development projects.
“With a congregation of 4, 5 million we have endorsed Constitutional Amendment No 3 Bill. We are rallying behind the leadership of President Mnangagwa which is geared to transform the livelihoods of the people in line with Vision 2030.
“As churches, we support the policies and vision of the Government in power. We want peace in our country. Leaders are chosen and anointed by God, so we are appealing to Zimbabweans to support the leadership of President Mnangagwa,” said Archbishop Dr Makururu.
Meanwhile, the Parliament of Zimbabwe has since advised people to continue submitting their views on the Bill until May 17, as part of the ongoing 90-day consultation process.
The legislative body encouraged continued public participation, indicating that written submissions remain open and accessible through multiple platforms.
