Machawira, Zebras driving force

WITH the talent possessed by Admire Machawira, it can be safe to conclude that he is one of the most unfortunate players not playing top flight football at this moment.

Machawira, 25, is one of the best players in the Bulawayo Province Division Two League and is one of the best set piece takers around.

The leftback has featured in all 21 matches so far this season and has had 12 goal contributions as he has scored seven goals and provided five assists.

Five of his seven goals have been freekicks.

“From the earliest stages of my football career, I noticed that one of my biggest strengths is on dead balls, therefore I work very hard on them,” said Machawira.

The Nkulumane-bred defender has previously played for Chicken Inn, Street Set, How Mine and Highlanders FC where he pointed out Gift Lunga, a former Highlanders player as having played a pivotal role in his development.

“It is not always an easy situation to find yourself in. Going into a team like that considering where I come from and having no coach there believing in you is a non-starter, but I am grateful that coach Lunga ‘Thebe’ believed in me,” said Machawira.

He also took time to appreciate his coaches at his present club, Mtewa Masiku and club founder, Mkhokheli Dube who is an established figure in the country after representing Zimbabwe at international level.

“They keep on pushing me and always advise me to keep working hard as there is still time for me to improve, therefore I appreciate their love and patience towards me,” said Mchawarira.

He and his team are in a tight title race with Chicken Inn’s developmental side with only two points separating the two sides.

The dead ball specialist will hope that he and his team maintain a consistent level of performance if they are to be crowned league champions.
