Preparations are well underway for Zimbabwe’s premier horse-racing event, the Castle Tankard, which this year celebrates its Blue Sapphire edition, marking 65 years, in partnership with the Mashonaland Turf Club.
The prestigious crème de la crème Grade One race will take place on Saturday, 10 May 2025, at the Borrowdale Racecourse in Harare, running from 10am to 7:30pm.
With US$50 000 in stakes, the Castle Tankard remains one of the most anticipated dates on the country’s sporting and social calendar. The event continues to attract top-tier jockeys, trainers, and horse owners from across the region, all vying for the coveted trophy and glory on the turf.
In a statement, organisers Delta Beverages said: “Preparations are in full swing, and we invite the nation to join us for a day of thrilling racing, entertainment, and celebration. This year’s Castle Tankard promises to be an unforgettable experience, a day of unity, excitement, and world-class racing.”
Beyond the races, the day will offer fans a lively mix of entertainment. Revellers can expect ice-cold beers, sizzling braais, and electrifying performances by Alick Macheso, Enzo Ishall, Delroy Shewe, Nisha T, Oriyano, and the Chillspot Family.

As the countdown begins, anticipation is mounting for what promises to be a vibrant celebration of sport, music, and community.
