“Extrabasso”, as he is fondly called in music circles, has been on a roll ever since the titles were bestowed on him and recently he left his fans in the United Kingdom yearning for more after he performed there and also used the shows as part of his role as the Zimbabwean Read Cross Ambassador.
But back home, the sungura maestro has never had time to celebrate with his fans, hence the decision to host this party that promises to be more than a thriller considering that young musicians of the moment, Morgan and Tendai Dembo, are also on top of their game.
This becomes probably the third or fourth occasion that Extrabasso will be playing at the joint that normally hosts jazz musicians but whenever he has performed there, he has lured a big crowd and has a had a full house. Macheso will also use the same opportunity to unleash tracks off his latest album, “Kwatakabva Mitunhu (Kure Kwekure)”, for the first time at the joint.
Jazz 105 manager Yasin Dhala said they were thrilled to be hosting Macheso’s celebration party, saying they were proud to be associated with the musician who amassed so many achievements in his long music career.
“Macheso is one great Zimbabwean music icon who has lifted the Zimbabwean flag high even abroad.
“On home soil, he continues to inspire a lot of young musicians who are following in his footsteps and we are also happy that he is now into humanitarian work and is spearheading programmes to assist the less privileged, the marginalised, the orphaned and the aged.
“We hope this party will help in pushing this cause further while we are also happy that the Dembo Brothers will play with him since they came through his hands by curtain-raising for him during some of his shows,” Yasin said.
Wellington Mpandare said he was happy that Morgan and Tendai Dembo were now their own men and were gaining confidence with each outing, adding that this gig would further boost their career.
“This show will be a platform for the guys to show that they are now going strong and that they respect their elders like Macheso who have helped them to be where they are today,” he said.
