SUNGURA maestro Alick Macheso will make a long-awaited return to South Africa this coming weekend with two blockbuster shows in Johannesburg and Musina.
The first show will be at The Fox Event Venue near the Newtown Bus Station.
This is the first time a Zimbabwean gig is held at the venue. He will be supported by Jah Signal and Culture Love.
The second gig will be in Musina, just a few kilometres from the Beitbridge Border Post, to enable fans who stay in Limpopo and Beitbridge to be part of the festivities.
The shows are the brainchild of CF Entertainment, fronted by Ronnie Shumba known in the entertainment circles as Boss Farooq.
The events company is not new in the industry as they have promoted similar big events, including previous Macheso shows. The Orchestra Mberikwazvo ensemble has pulled full houses in previous shows in South Africa and it remains to be seen if they still have the staying power.
The unique element of the tour will be in Musina – a border town to the south of Beitbridge. It will provide an opportunity to fans in the Limpopo province as well as those in Beitbridge to join in.
The Musina show will be at Skoonplaas Stadium and Macheso will be supported by Zozo on Saturday. “We are ready to host one of the most-loved bands from Zimbabwe. “We have had an excellent working relationship with Extra Mberikwazvo and when the opportunity availed itself, we took it with both hands,” said Boss Farooq.
He added: “We chose a bigger venue in Johannesburg which also has ample parking to ensure that we accommodate the huge numbers we are expecting. There are no security fears as all the necessary measures have been put in place,” he said.
A number of Jo’burg-based wheel spinners, among them DJ Inno B, DJ Wenera and T Nice, will take turns on the turntables.
Popular MC Rico Myers will be partnering MC Krish on the mic. Pre-sale tickets are available online on Webtickets and will also be available at the venues.
