Sungura ace Alick Macheso who is billed to perform in Masvingo this Friday as part of his countrywide tour has pledged to support Tokwe-Mukosi floods victims.
The “Charakupa” hit maker who is also the Zimbabwe Red Cross Society (ZRCS) humanitarian ambassador said he would donate part of his proceeds from the gig scheduled for Ritz Nightclub to the flood victims.

“Zvinondirwadza kuziva kuti hama dzedu dziri kurara mumvura dzisina chekudya neramangwana rakajeka (it is painful to learn that the victims have not food and are having to put up in a crowded camp with no shelter). Since we have a show in Masvingo we are planning on giving part of the proceeds to the victims,” Macheso said.

The sungura maestro is not new in humanitarian projects as he has worked closely with the ZRCS.

Macheso also said he was going to mobilise a number of local musicians for a possible fundraising concert for the flood victims.

“If we had four or five artistes who share the same sentiments as mine, I think my dream for a fundraising concert would come true.

“I am ready to dedicate a whole night of music and fun for a worthy cause,” he said.

ZRCS public relations manager Takemore Mazuruse said the organisation was working on a possible fundraising concert where Macheso and other musicians will headline the gig. “ZRCS appreciate the gesture by our humanitarian ambassador in mobilising resources for the floods victims. It is through such initiatives that we can assist those affected by the floods. The Red Cross will do all it can to support this idea and we hope partners will also come on board.

“Not withstanding the support we have given, this fundraising concert will also enhance our auxiliary role to government’s humanitarian efforts,” said Mazuruse.

A number of artistes who include Tryson Chimbetu, Peter Moyo and urban grooves graduate Diana Samkange have taken part in fundraising activities for the needy.
