Macheso returns to his homeground

AFTER starving fans of new stuff on the market and going for many months without giving his Chitungwiza fans a big show, Alick Macheso will tonight return to Chitungwiza Aquatic Complex to make a big announcement.

The sungura ace — who is under pressure to release an album before year-end — will headline the live version of the Zimdancehall versus Sungura series. He is expected to announce the date of release of his upcoming album.

Utakataka Express heir, Peter Moyo combines forces with Macheso when the pair takes on Zimdancehall chanters and emcees at this particular event. Unrivalled first family of Zimdancehall Soul Jah Love and his wife Bounty Lisa will be in charge along with Mbare-bred chanter Kinna and Chiredzi-based pair of Gibbo Empire and Juggler City.

In an interview, Orchestra Mberikwazvo spokesperson, Lucky Macheso, said; “We are ready for this particular show and we do promise our best. We are very much aware that we have been starving our fans in Chitungwiza of live shows and we can’t wait for this particular show.

“Being one of the biggest shows in town this weekend, we urge fans to show up in numbers at this particular show. Morale is also high in the camp and the boys are ready for the usually eventful festive season now upon us.

“In fact, mudhara will be rolling out his festive season programme at this particular gig where we expect hordes of fans. Judging by the line-up, variety is also guaranteed at this show where we will be sharing the stage with top Zimdancehall artistes.

“As you know, Macheso embraces artistes from other genres and it is our wish that fans will have a blast at this show.”

The Sungura versus Zim dancehall series comes at a time when the Young Igwe is enjoying a purple patch, buoyed by the success of his latest album “Masimba aMwari”.

On the other hand, the Conquering Family continue to rule the roost in this genre owing to consistency while Kinna is simply a tried and tested performer.
