FORMER manager of Alick Macheso’s Orchestra Mberikwazvo, Jethro Machanja, has had his left leg amputated at Chitungwiza Central Hospital.

The 53-year-old was part of Orchestra Mberikwazvo for 15 years, between 2000 and 2015.

He worked in various capacities and was the assistant manager when William Tsandukwa was in charge of the band’s management.

He later took over as manager when Tsandukwa left.

He told H-Metro in his hospital ward that he was first diagonised with diabetes in 2013.

The last six months, he said, were hell for him as the pain was unbearable.

“My appeal to Zimbabweans is that we should get regular health tests for things like diabetes and BP,” he said.

“If we are diagonised with either BP or diabetes, we should always follow the advice of the medical experts.

“I’m sure these illnesses are caused by some of the foods that we eat today because in the past we did not have such illnesses or, when we had them, they were not this severe.

“I suffered with severe pain in the last six months and this led to the amputation of my leg.”

He added:

“I want to commend my family, especially my wife and kids, for the support that they have given me throughout my suffering.

“I also want to thank mukoma Tsandukwa and Kireni Zulu for coming to give me morale support here in hospital.”
