In a terrifying incident, three armed robbers raided a shop in Lalapanzi, Midlands Province, and allegedly attacked shopkeepers before taking an assortment of goods and US$89 in cash.
The incident happened at the Downlands shopping complex in Lalapanzi and was reported to the police. Midlands Police Spokesperson Inspector Emmanuel Mahoko confirmed the incident.
“We confirm the robbery incident which occurred at Lalapanzi and we are appealing for information that may lead to the arrest of the suspects. Anyone with information may contact any nearest police station or may give us a tip-off via 054 2221071,” he said.
A source told B-Metro that three robbers who were armed with machetes and a rope pounced at the shop and headed to a room where a male shopkeeper, Andrew Dube (23) was sleeping.
“Upon getting there they punched and kicked him all over the body demanding cash but he told them that there was no cash in his room. But they were not convinced as they thrashed him with a rope,” said the source.
After that, they force-marched him to his colleague’s room, Pamela Makiwa (23) where upon arrival they demanded a cash box. Initially, she refused to cooperate with them and they assaulted her.
“They attacked her several times with the flat side of the machete and lashed her with a rope. Fearing for her life, Makiwa led them to a room where cash was kept and there was only US$89. They tied their hands together, and after that they went to the shop where they took 4 litres of cooking oil, 10×50 grams tinned fish, 10kg of chicken portions, and 15 castle beer quarts before they fled,” said the source.
On the following day, Dube and Makiwa reported the incident to the police.
