A SHURUGWI man was left traumatised after a machete-wielding gang raided his home at night and went away with 148 chickens, cash and household property in a daring robbery.

Midlands provincial police spokesperson Inspector Emmanuel Mahoko confirmed the incident, which occurred at Outward Bound Farm at around 11PM on Sunday.

“I can confirm a robbery that occurred on May 3 at around 11PM when a 25-year-old man was attacked at his home at Outward Bound Farm,” said Insp Mahoko.

The victim, Mr Arthur Munjari, was asleep when he heard a vehicle pulling up outside his homestead.

Insp Mahoko said the complainant peeped through a window and saw a black Honda Fit parked outside, with three unidentified men disembarking from the vehicle armed with machetes and a bolt cutter, while a fourth suspect remained behind the wheel.

“It is alleged that the suspects forced open a window and gained entry into the house before ordering the complainant to lie down,” said Insp Mahoko.

The gang allegedly stole a Samsung Galaxy A20 cellphone, US$30 cash, a sleeping bag and a blanket before force-marching Mr Munjari to the fowl run.

The robbers then loaded 64 layer chickens and 84 broiler chickens into the vehicle before speeding off into the night.  “The total value of the stolen property is US$1 638,” said Insp Mahoko.

Although Mr Munjari was not physically injured during the robbery, police said he was left severely traumatised by the ordeal.

Police have since launched a manhunt for the four suspects and are appealing to members of the public with information that may assist investigations to report to the nearest police station.

“Investigations are in progress,” said Insp Mahoko.
