Police in Gweru have arrested three machete-wielding men who attacked and robbed a woman who was coming from the shops. Midlands police spokesperson Inspector Joel Goko confirmed the incident: “I can confirm that we have arrested three men who were armed with a machete and axe. They allegedly attacked a woman who was from the shops at Bebryn farm and took away her groceries.”

The trio of Forget Zulu, Nobert Msimanga and a Barnabas allegedly ambushed Ruth Moyo who was from the shops.

“They hid in the bushes at Bebryn farm and when she was near the spot where they were hiding they emerged from the bush. Forget attacked her with the back of the axe on the head and she fell,” said the source.

She stood up and tried to flee, the source said, but Nobert attacked her with a flat machete on the knee and on her waist.

“They took turns to hit her with open arms. They instructed her to lie on the ground and took her groceries that included six litres of cooking oil, four kilogrammes of sugar , three bars of soap, four kgs of flour, and US$5, $100 and ITEL cellphone,”said the source.

The complainant sustained a swollen back and left arm. She was referred to Gweru Provincial Hospital for treatment.
