A CHEGUTU man armed with a machete turned a simple dispute over a cow bell into a blood-soaked rampage, leaving four people injured and landing himself behind bars.
Eddison Pennias (24) was convicted on four counts of assault after he pleaded guilty before the Chegutu Magistrates’ Court.
According to the National Prosecuting Authority of Zimbabwe (NPAZ), the gory incident occurred on 12 July 2025 at Thornby Farm.
“The offender approached Spiwe Kuwedowo at her place of residence demanding for the bell of his cow whilst holding a machete. When the victim asked why he had a machete, he then started to assault her,” said the NPAZ in a statement.
As Spiwe screamed for help, three good Samaritans — Peter Kuwedowo, Givemore Sibanda, and Gloria Mufudza — rushed to her rescue, only to face the same savage blade.
“Peter Kuwedowo was struck on his right arm, Givemore Sibanda on his right hand, and Gloria Mufudza on both her left and right legs,” read the statement.
Spiwe was left nursing injuries to her left hand and buttocks.
Neighbours eventually overpowered the attacker and dragged him to the Chegutu Police Station.
Pennias was sentenced to 15 months imprisonment, with five months suspended for five years on condition he stays out of trouble. He will serve an effective 10-month prison stretch.
