MADAGASCAR has hailed the climate-proofed Pfumvudza/Intwasa farming technique championed by President Mnangagwa to improve household food security against the backdrop of climate change.

This was said by Madagascar Foreign Affairs Minister Rasata Rafaravavitafika after paying a courtesy call on Foreign Affairs and International Trade Minister Ambassador Frederick Shava on the sidelines of the SADC Council of Ministers meeting that ended in Mt Hampden on Wednesday.

She also congratulated Ambassador Shava on his assumption of the chairmanship of the Sadc Council of Ministers.

“I just paid a courtesy visit to Dr Frederick Shava and I congratulated him for the chairmanship of the SADC Council of Ministers. I also expressed my warmest wishes to Dr Frederick Shava and wished him success as he assumes his chairmanship.

“We also discussed a few areas of co-operation between Madagascar and Zimbabwe. I recall that Madagascar and Zimbabwe work together in various fields, like agriculture for example. We use the Pfumvudza technique in agriculture in Madagascar and it is very, very efficient.

“We also discussed new avenues of co-operation between our two countries and we will definitely find new ways and give new impetus to our co-operation. I had the opportunity to explain a few matters to Dr Shava regarding the candidatures of Madagascar in various regional arenas as well,” said Ms Rafaravavitafika said.

The Union of Comoros’ Foreign Minister, Mr Mohamed Mbae, also met Ambassador Shava and the two discussed bilateral relations between the two countries.

“I would like to extend my thanks on the hospitality extended to us by Zimbabwe. We confirmed the desire to enhance co-operation with Zimbabwe and work together for the development of our two countries,” Mr Mbae said.

Zimbabwe is hosting the 44th SADC Summit of Heads of State and Government whose main venue is the new Parliament building in Mt Hampden.
