NEDRIC Madeya has quit Hwange Football Club and will turn out for Greenfuel next season.
The 28-year-old whose contract comes to an end today said he had made the decision in the interest of his family.
Madeya said the move was necessitated by the Colliery side’s financial problems.
A number of players are owed signing on fees from 2021 and want out.
Madeya a former Street Set, LG Vultures, Highlanders and Talen Vision goalkeeper said he was happy to be joining Greenfuel.
“They are an ambitious side, so do I. I think I am going to a team that yearns for glory and I am in a position to go out there and fight for a position in the starting 11 or match day squad and help coach Rodwell Dhlakama win things. It’s exciting to be going on a new venture with guys I have played against and we will work together to brand the club and ourselves. I want to win things as an individual and also as a team,” said Madeya.
The lanky goalkeeper is believed to have been sought by a number of clubs such as Bikita Minerals and Herentals.
He said after helping Hwange gain promotion to the Premiership, he had enjoyed his game at the Colliery and his 13 clean sheets is what he wants to build on for the future.
“It was a decent outing and for me to have clocked 13 cleans sheets was a good season by all standards for me. I am happy with my coaches Bongani Mafu, Try Ncube and Nation and my mentor Edmore ‘MaKhwebu’ Sibanda. They were behind me when I was off form and down emotionally, without their support I would not have had such a season,” said Madeya.
Hwange, despite the financial challenges that threaten the future of the club, finished ninth with 45 points.
“Hwange were slow in their approach. They could not start negotiating with me while they owe me bonuses and one month’s salary.
“I want to thank the Hwange family for everything and I am very grateful to the team. Today I am a better player because of Hwange FC. They gave me a chance to redeem myself in football and I am so grateful I hope to return there some day,” said the ever cheerful goalkeeper whose playfulness frustrates opponents.
