LONDON. — Real Madrid are desperately trying to persuade Iker Casillas to leave the club so they can sign David De Gea from Manchester United this summer, according to reports.
Casillas currently has a contract until 2017 and has reportedly stated his wish to see it out before possibly heading to the MLS.
But Real see De Gea as the long-term successor to the 33-year-old and know they may miss their opportunity to land the United star unless they act at the end of the season.
De Gea is currently stalling over a new deal at United, with some reports suggesting he is waiting to see if interest from Real solidifies in the coming months before making a decision. But Real are determined to honour long-serving Casillas — who remains a fan favourite — and let him go out with dignity. That means they won’t sign De Gea until they can get Casillas off their books, according to Spanish radio station Onda Cero. — The Daily Express.
