Madzibaba’s legacy lives on: New song released days after his passing

One of the final songs recorded by sungura legend, Nicholas ‘Madzibaba’ Zakaria, has been released.

Just before his untimely death last month, Madzibaba Zakaria, who was also known as Senior Lecturer, featured on sungura musician Lovemore Muketiwa’s single track titled ‘Ngatinamatei Nesimba’.

The song has now been released, and Muketiwa has dedicated it to the sungura legend who passed away on 11 December.

In an interview, Muketiwa said working with Madzibaba Zakaria was a dream come true for him, adding that he learnt a lot from him.

He said they had plans to work together on an album this year, but all those plans were crushed following his death.

“I had the opportunity to work with the legend, and it was a dream come true for me because I learnt a lot from him. We worked together on my single track ‘Ngatinamatei Nesimba’ and were planning to collaborate on an album this year, but God called him.

“I am just grateful I had the opportunity to work with him on one of his final projects, so I am dedicating this song to him,” he said.

Muketiwa started his music journey in 2006 as a backing vocalist for Chase Skuza before going solo in 2012.

He has six albums and several singles.
