TINASHE “Chairman” Madziwana successfully retained his national super-bantamweight boxing title after defeating Jeremiah Mhere at Harare Exhibition Park’s Nelson Mandela Hall at the weekend. The Mbare-born pugilist won by a unanimous points decision after 12 rounds.
Madziwana, who first won his belt after knocking down Ronald Tamani in the fifth round back in May, said he is now looking forward to his next challenge.
Madziwana was happy with his win and said that he is looking forward to defend his title and is now eyeing the African title next.
“I am happy for the win as I had really prepared well for it, I won’t rest but prepare for my next fight.
“Mhere is not an easy opponent, the fight was tough but I had to prove that I am the “chairman” of boxing. I’m going for the African title. I will liaise with my manager and sponsors,” added Madziwana.
Meanwhile, in the main supporting bout Zimbabwean Brendon “Boika” Denis won by a technical knock-out in the third round over Malawian Israel Kamwamba who had sustained a deep cut and the fight had to be stopped.
Alfonso Zvenyika (Jnr) lost his fight to Ian Kachepa who won by majority decision in the featherweight bout.
Dubbed the “Ring of Fire”, the showdown between an experienced Madziwana and his rookie opponent headlined the 10-fight bill which also had another major highlight in which local favourite Denis managed to defeat highly-rated Kamwamba from Malawi.
Gypsite Sports Promotions together with Delta Force were the promoters of the bill.
