Mafero demands dog fight at GreenFuel

CHICKEN Inn coach Joey “Mafero” Antipas says survival remains the only target as his side braces for a tough Castle Lager Premier Soccer League trip to Greenfuel Arena on Saturday.

With six games left, the Gamecocks sit 10th on 33 points, level with Highlanders and Manica Diamonds. Greenfuel are 17th with 28 points, a single point behind third-from-bottom Dynamos. Triangle United, CAPS United and Bikita Minerals are just a point ahead on 32.

“We have a very difficult assignment away from home against Greenfuel. It is going to be a battle, a hectic game. We are not yet safe from relegation, we are not yet off the wood. We need to go there and fight like we have never fought before,” said Antipas.

His preparations have been hampered by injuries. Midfielders Joseph Tulani, Marlon Mushonga and skipper Xolani “Lolo” Ndlovu are all ruled out, with a few more players under assessment. “Mushonga, Tulani and our skipper Xolani will be out. We also have other couple of injury concerns and we hope the players will recover in time,” the veteran gaffer said.

Meanwhile, action continues elsewhere. Tomorrow, Scottland host Manica Diamonds at Rufaro Stadium. Saturday fixtures feature Bikita Minerals versus FC Platinum at Gibbo Stadium, Yadah against TelOne at Heart Stadium and Ngezi Platinum Stars taking on Herentals at Baobab Stadium, along with the key Greenfuel-Chicken Inn clash.

On Sunday, Highlanders welcome ZPC Kariba at Barbourfields, CAPS United meet Dynamos at Rufaro, Triangle United play Simba Bhora at Gibbo and already relegated Kwekwe United face MWOS at Ascot.
