THE wife of Prophetic Healing and Deliverance Ministries founder Walter Magaya, Tendai, has been granted bail after the court ruled there were no compelling reasons to deny her release.
Presiding over the case, the magistrate acknowledged the gravity of the allegations against Tendai but emphasised that the seriousness of the offence alone cannot justify withholding bail.
“In this case, the court finds the explanations provided by the accused to be plausible,” said the magistrate.
“There are no compelling reasons submitted by the State to deny her bail. The accused is not a flight risk.”
The court further noted that Tendai had been under investigation since 2023 and could have fled to countries like the United Kingdom or South Africa if she had any intention to evade justice.
Her decision to remain in the country demonstrated a commitment to face the charges, the magistrate added.
“Denying her bail under these circumstances would amount to a travesty of justice,” the court concluded.
“It defies common sense to assume she would flee now when she has had ample opportunity to do so previously.”
The court also found the State’s case against Tendai to be weak and ruled that the fears raised by the prosecution could be addressed through bail conditions.
Tendai Magaya was ordered to deposit US$500 bail, surrender her passport to authorities, report once every two weeks at ZRP Waterfalls Police Station, continue residing at her given address and not to interfere with witnesses.
Both Tendai and her husband, Walter Magaya, are expected to appear in court again on November 18.
The State is represented by Mr Clemence Chimbare, while the accused persons are represented by Mr Admire Rubaya and Mr Everson Chatambudza.
