Prophetic Healing Deliverance Ministries founder Walter Magaya’s wife, Tendai Magaya, who is facing fraud charges, has been granted bail by a Harare Magistrate.
Tendai was ordered to deposit US$500 as bail and not to interfere with investigations.
The State had opposed Tendai’s bail, arguing that she is a flight risk and is likely to interfere with witnesses as she holds a high and influential position in the church.
In her ruling, magistrate Mrs Marewanazvo Gofa said Tendai has given a plausible defence to the allegations.
She added that investigations started two years ago, and therefore, the accused cannot be denied bail on the basis that the State wants further investigations.
Mrs Gofa added that denying Tendai bail due to her position in the church would be a travesty of justice.
Tendai is accused of defrauding home seekers from the couple’s church of US$42 000 in a non-existent stands scheme.
She is expected back in court on November 18, together with her husband Prophet Magaya.
