Magistrates warned against corruption

MAGISTRATES must not engage in corrupt practices to augment their income as this compromises service delivery, an official has said.

Chief magistrate Mishrod Guvamombe also warned the public against enticing magistrates with bribes.

“We appreciate that the conditions of service for magistrates are not the best but efforts are being made to lobby the powers to improve them. It is hoped that once the economy starts performing, the issue of conditions of service for magistrates will be addressed,” said Guvamombe before swearing in three magistrates into office.

Magistrates Nomagugu Ncube, Manasa Musiiwa and Masimba Chikodzore have joined the Bulawayo magistrates court and will preside over cases with immediate effect.

Guvamombe said the Judiciary Service Commission had embarked on a project to furnish all courts with recording machines to ensure all proceedings are recorded.

“Let me remind you that the Magistrates Court is a court of record and the importance of the court to justice delivery system cannot be understated,” said Guvamombe.

Matabeleland North Minister for Provincial Affairs Cain Mathema and senior legal practitioners graced the occasion.
