Mahachi makes waves

LEBANON, III. — Junior Tsitsi Mahachi, a former Chisipite Senior School pupil from the McKendree University women’s track and field team, was selected as the Great Lakes Valley Conference Field Athlete of the Week.

She got the award last week.

Mahachi recorded a personal best in the women’s triple jump this past weekend at the Joe Walker Classic at Ole Miss.

She won the event by over a foot with a final distance of 12,32m. With this jump, the junior now leads the conference in this event as well.

Tsitsi is currently ranked seventh in the NCAA DII rankings with her triple jump performance this past weekend meeting a provisional national standard, meaning any setbacks aside, she has qualified for the NCAA Championships in May.

This is Tsitsi’s first GLVC Outdoor Field Athlete of the Week honour. Mahachi is majoring in economics and finance here at McKendree in the United States.
