Mahendere Bros sing different tune

groovers.
Mahendere composed the eight tracks on the album whose beats he produced with the assistance of young artiste DJ Bimbo – real name Chancellor Majoka – while the rest of the production work was done at Mc Dee’s studio.

“I am trying to work with young artistes. As musicians we can combine our talents whether we are gospel or secular musicians or not. I can create anything for as long as it is still music. In fact, I always pray for new ideas everyday,” Mahendere said.
He said he came up with the idea of the house gospel album because he wanted to dismiss the notion that some people have of gospel artistes in the country as dull and lacking in creativity.

“There are some people in this country who take gospel musicians as dull yet they are just as good as their counterparts who play other genres,” he said.
Mahendere said the album will be preceded by a single titled “Sindiwopa” that is sung in Shona, Nyanja, Zulu and English.

“The single is going to be on the airwaves soon while the video will follow afterwards.
“We are going to take the video to SABC1 and One Gospel in South Africa,” Mahendere said.

Mahendere Brothers are not new to gospel music.

They have a catalogue of hit albums to their name which include “Hupenyu Hwepanyika”, “Africa Yorumbidza”, “Psalms 23” and “The Good Shepherd” among others. The group is also famous for their videos, some of which have won them a string of awards.

They have also become a permanent feature at most of the national music galas.
Recently, top South African gospel musician and producer, Sipho Makhabane expressed his interest to work with Mahendere Brothers whom he said had a lot of potential to made inroads not only in the South African music scene, but also in the region and the continent at large.
