An enthusiastic young man Joram Mahindidze is very passionate about creating a positive change among youths and the whole society.
The 24-year is dedicated to making sure that every youth becomes innovative and finds something to do to raise money for sustainable projects that will lead to the development of the nation at large.
He is a person who is enthusiastic, honest, results-driven, and very passionate about creating positive change in society.
Because of his passion to empower youths, he has been involved in creating positive change through Junior Chamber International (JCI).
Mahindidze is an IT Consultant by profession and a talented author.
He is a member of JCI a membership-driven global network of dedicated young leaders, ages 18 to 40.
Ever since he joined JCI in 2020 he has been involved in several projects that have had a significant impact on communities.
He got involved in a project called ‘Peace is Possible’ which had a mandate to contribute to a home in need of support.
They identified the Bumhudzo Old People’s home in Chitungwiza.
He worked as a local treasurer and his roles included making a budget, collecting and recording funds, and lastly fund raising.
They worked very hard to raise the money and got partners on board. They managed to buy the PPEs and groceries which the home needed.
“Further, I got involved in a programme to grow fruit trees at children’s homes under an initiative called ‘Green my Zimbabwe’. We grew several trees in homes and our last point of call was Chinyaradzo Children’s home in Highfield.
“After planting trees at Chinyaradzo we had a meeting with the leadership there and we discovered they needed money to cater for the haircuts of the children. Using the now JCI Action Framework we managed to look at the problem and addressed it sustainably.
“We bought two barber kits and also trained two elderly boys who would go on to shave the rest of the children.”
He said the initiative was a great success.
Besides community projects, Mahindidze has been actively involved in training young leaders.
They equip their members with skills that make them better leaders and he was proud to say he is one of them.
He has served in various capacities on the board for 3 years that is including Local treasurer, Vice President of Business, and Vice President of membership.
Having read the drug masterplan plan strategy, he is encouraging the government to partner with youth organisations to execute the strategy in collaboration with these organisations as they have equipped young leaders who are also volunteers and are equipped with skills through the training they do.
He also encouraged young people to be enterprising and to be active in governance processes, community actions, policy-making, and leadership, this will help solve drug and substance abuses, poverty, and idleness. Joining networks of different organisations can help solve these problems.
It upskills its members to be leaders in their spheres of influence be it professional, business, or civic society. They have done work in Highfield, Chitungwiza, and Mufakose communities.
They also visit schools hence they have facilitated public speaking and debate competitions in schools and also carrier guidance.
“We have had a pad drive which raised hundreds of pads for children’s homes.
“We have had sustainable tree planting projects in schools and libraries,” he said.
