SOCIAL media influencer ‘Mai Clifford’ has been fined after he pleaded guilty to driving under the influence of alcohol with a blood alcohol concentration THREE times above the legal limit.
He appeared in court yesterday.
Mai Clifford, whose real name is Theophilus Chigumira, pleaded guilty before Harare Magistrate Tapiwa Kuhudzai.
The 30-year-old told the court, in mitigation, that he had nothing of real value except two cows worth US$300 each and US$150 in savings.
He was fined US$200.
Chigumira was facing charges of driving under the influence of alcohol. He contravened section 54(4) of the Road Traffic Act [Chapter 13:11], which prohibits driving while under the influence of alcohol.
The State, represented by Charlotte Chikoore, said on Saturday, Chigumira was driving a Mazda Atenza, registration number AHN5145, at the Newlands Roundabout along Emmerson Mnangagwa Road when he was found to be under the influence of alcohol.
A breath alcohol test revealed that he had an alcohol concentration of 160mg per 100ml of blood.
In mitigation, Chigumira pleaded for leniency, telling the court that his only assets were two cows worth US$300 each and US$150 in his savings.
