Maid slices child (4)’s upper lip

A Harare maid who sliced the upper lip of her employer’s four-year-old daughter with a knife as punishment for failing to cut tomatoes was yesterday sentenced to 210 hours of community service.

The magistrate Mr Tendai Mahwe sentenced Maslin Refu (19) to 12 months in prison but suspended six months for five years on condition that she does not commit a similar offence.

The remaining six months were also suspended on condition that she performs 210 hours of community service at Mwanandishe Primary School in Mabvuku.

Refu was facing charges of contravening the Children’s Act.
