Maid steals US$1 000 goods, court told

Harare Magistrates’ Courts facing theft charges.
Ms Francesca Mukumbiri, for the State alleges that Beta stole clothing that included shirts, shorts, trousers and hats that she gave them to her boyfriend.

Beta denied the charges when she appeared before Ms Vicky Mashamba last Friday.
The State, however, opposed bail arguing that Beta was of no fixed aboard.
This was after she had provided Dr Mandaza’s address to the police as her place of residence.

Ms Mukumbiri told the court that Beta had failed to provide an alternative address.
The State also argued that Beta was not being co-operative with the police considering that she refused to identify the accomplice she connived with when she allegedly stole the property.

Beta was remanded in custody to July 22 when her trial is expected to start.
It is the State’s case that on July 2 this year, Beta who had access to every room in Dr Mandaza’s house stole a suit, trousers, shirts, shorts and hats valued at US$1 000.
Ms Mukumbira told that court that Beta gave the stolen goods to Noah Makumbiza.

It is alleged Makumbiza however, sent messages to Dr Mandaza’s mobile phone indicating that he had the stolen goods.
Dr Mandaza made a police report leading to Beta’s arrest.
