HIGHLANDERS have quietly brought back Majahawodwa Ndlovu (pictured) to oversee strength and conditioning as the club’s rebuild gathers pace behind closed doors.
Ndlovu, a familiar face at Bosso, has resumed duties after previously serving as the club’s fitness trainer before spells at CAPS United, with the Warriors, and at Malawi champions Nyasa Big Bullets. His return comes at a time of sweeping changes at Bosso, with the technical team and squad undergoing a major reset.
Chief executive officer Denzel Mnkandla stopped short of confirming the appointment but acknowledged talks were at an advanced stage.
“We are currently in discussions with Mr Majahawodwa Ndlovu to be our strength and conditioning coach. Once the process is complete, we will formally advise our stakeholders,” he said.
Sources within the club say the paperwork is already done, with Ndlovu signing on as part of a wider overhaul that has seen Highlanders release several senior players and bring in fresh faces ahead of the new Castle Lager Premier Soccer League season.
The new arrivals include midfielder Pride Zendera, who spent last season without a club, along with Mongameli Tshuma, Tawanda Shenje from Hwange, Royn Nyamono from Bikita Minerals, and Rayton Chuma from the National University of Science and Technology.
Departing the black-and-white army are Mason Mushore, Mckinnon Mushore, Melikhaya Mthabisi Ncube, Honest Mhlanga, Nqobile Ndlovu, Martin Nhubu, Atusaye Nyondo, and Learnmore Muyambo — a clear signal that sentiment is no longer guiding selection.
The changes extend to the bench. South African coach Thabo Senong has been installed as head coach, while former Bosso striker Mkhokheli Dube has returned as his assistant, restoring a familiar voice in the dressing room.
Ndlovu’s comeback also coincides with the exit of Abraham Mbaiwa, who had been overseeing conditioning duties. Mbaiwa was demoted last season from the first team to the junior ranks and has now reportedly joined PSL newcomers Hardrock.
At the Kwekwe-based club, Mbaiwa reunites with Kelvin Kaindu, the former Highlanders coach who signed a two-year deal with Hardrock late last year after steering Dynamos away from relegation on the final day of the season. Kaindu also delivered the Chibuku Super Cup during his stint in Harare.
Mbaiwa’s stock at Bosso dipped during Pieter de Jongh’s tenure, and his move closes a chapter that had already lost momentum.
Ndlovu brings a heavyweight résumé. In 2023, he briefly assisted Zifa Southern Region Division One side Talen Vision. He has won a league title in Malawi, attended the Africa Cup of Nations, and featured at Chan and Cosafa tournaments with the Warriors.
His club work stretches across South Africa, with stints at Orlando Pirates, Black Leopards, Mpumalanga Black Aces (now Cape Town City), and Jomo Cosmos. For Highlanders, the hope is that his return restores an edge that slipped as results and standards wobbled.
