AFTER a long musical lull owing to Covid-19, Harare this weekend roars to life when a South African amapiano musical duo descends on the capital for a show.
Dance and music will re-ignite a revelling mood in the capital when South African hip-hop/amapiano music disc jockeys, twin brothers Bandile and Banele Mbere, affectionately known as Major League, spin the tables at the Palm Estate in Borrowdale on Saturday night, before heading to Bulawayo for yet another show.
In between the Harare and Bulawayo shows, the amapiano disco jockeys are also expected to play at a private birthday party for the organiser, Collin Manyore, who is turning 39.
Organisers for the much hyped show dubbed “The City Shutdown” said all was set for the three shows.
Major League, who have completely revolutionised kwaito music into the modern urban culture of music, are expected in Harare tomorrow at 11am ahead of the show on Saturday.
In an interview, businessman and promoter Manyore said the South African duo will share the stage with some of the local top acts.
“The duo will arrive at 11am tomorrow and are expected on Saturday afternoon to do sound-check,” he said. “They are expected to share the stage with some of local finest who include Nutty O, Takura, Ray Dizz, DJ Rimo, C-Skills, DJ Flevah and Ishan among others.
“The South African team will be in Zimbabwe for three days and are expected to exchange notes with some disc jockeys and tour some local places.”
Manyore said that the show will be held under the Covid-19 regulations and guidelines.
“We have sought authority and permission from relevant authorities,” he said.
“All guests are expected to show their vaccination cards upon entry and observe all Covid-19 regulations and guidelines which include wearing of masks and sanitisation.”
Manyore said as an upcoming promoter, his dream was to see artistes unite and strengthen the entertainment industry, which has been facing a number of challenges.
“As a promoter, we should understand that for the music industry to grow, we should support one another and not take advantage of each other,” he said. “Music is just a profession which can sustain livelihoods henceforth we should take it seriously.
“It is also my dream to see local artists getting equal opportunities on an international level so that they too can grow and learn a thing. I chose to bring Major League to perform on my birthday because I am a huge fan of them and it is also an opportunity for locals to meet them.
“My birthday wish as a promoter is to improve the country’s infrastructure and build modern event venues. Obviously, it is a business and we should be making money.”
