I strongly believe that many teenagers do agree with me that the internet a few has greatly affected their school work, be it in a positive way or in a negative way. Some parents and guardians have had to sanction the time spent by teens on the net because some teens spend much of their time glued to their cell phones and laptops surfing or chatting on social platforms like WhatsApp, Facebook, Twitter are stealing a big deal of study time from teenagers.
Some teens are also getting into pornography and prostitution and other crimes because of these sites. But I think that what everyone needs to know that as with everything else, it is abuse that makes a thing bad.
The internet is not an evil thing in itself to teenagers. It has created opportunities for making most of today young billionaires. It can also prove to be an awesome tool for upping your grades. It is now crystal clear that learning has become easier than ever before, thanks to the internet.
Homework and assignments can now be done in the comfort of our homes at the click of a button. Unlike in the 80s and early 90s were you were forced to go to the library a couple of kilometers away for you to get a book to use for an assignment.
The sad part of it all came when you found that vital source already borrowed for two weeks and the assignment would be due the next day.
Moreover, the internet has also made schoolwork fun. I remember vividly when I was doing my science project and when I was searching on the internet everything was fascinating as the graphics and designs were impeccable.
A topic which was cold and dry in ordinary textbooks became interesting. It was fun, cool and educational. That combination I believe is the way to go for school work. I say combination because you need to know that not everything that is on the net is true. So the old-fashioned textbook is still very necessary. But downloading the latest information is a major benefit of the internet. Gone are the days were we relied on school textbooks only. With the internet we can just download a text book on any subject in a split of a second. This definitely helps teenagers in their individual studies.
In support of the internet, many schools have installed Wi-Fi connections on campus to strengthen the aspect of E-learning. This will motivate students to do better in school but only if the opportunity is used for the correct purposes.
So it is up to you, to spend all your time and money sending and receiving jokes, gossiping, setting up dates and other such activities. Or you can decide to use the internet to expand your knowledge, and up your grades. At the end excelling is our main goal. I wish you all a fruitful first term. Be cool, stay cool, forever cool.
