AN early first half goal and a double in the second half ensured Makomo thrashed Black Boots 3-0 in a Zifa Southern Region Division One league match played at Fairbridge yesterday.
It took just four minutes for Makomo striker Difficult Moyo to open the score sheet when he took advantage of a napping Black Boots defence, which failed to clear an aerial ball that Moyo slotted past the home team’s goalkeeper John Musikiya.
Black Boots failed to dictate the tempo of the match and resorted to pumping long balls upfront, with no meaningful outcome.
Thirteen minutes into the second half, Claude Nyoni added Makomo’s second goal through a header before Bhekani Sibanda beat the Black Boots goalie with a well executed free-kick on the edge of the box.
Makomo head coach Brian Njovu said he was happy with the resilience shown by his players.
“It’s not easy coming to Bulawayo and getting maximum points, but our players fought from the first minute and took the game to Black Boots. The last time we played Black Boots, they complained about unfair officiating, but today we beat them at their home ground. Our target is to finish in the top four and it’s possible if we play like this in all our remaining matches,” said Njovu.
Meanwhile, the Nokel Security top goal scorer award for the month of July was presented to Black Boots striker Tendai Zaza. Zaza netted five goals to walk away with $200.
The award was presented by Zifa Southern Region chairman Musa Mandaza and board member for development Tumeliso Mokoena Ndlovu.
