Makumbiri Game Park, located along the Harare-Mvurwi highway, was officially opened recently by the Minister of State for Mashonaland Central Provincial Affairs and Devolution, Christopher Magomo.
The resort area, owned by businessman Mr Jefta Mugweni, started receiving visitors in March this year, with 95 percent of them being locals and some coming from as far as Bulawayo.
The game park is home to a variety of wildlife, including leopards, hyenas, zebra, giraffe, impala, eland, kudu, wild pigs, and jackals, as well as different species of birds such as the Egyptian goose and eagles.
It also features a large dam with scenic mountain views. However, one of the challenges faced by the park is riverbed cultivation by neighbouring farmers, which poses a risk of silting the dam.
Mr Mugwenhi said the resort’s development was briefly affected by the Covid-19 pandemic, before they started restocking wildlife.
