Upcoming gospel artiste Elliot Makuyana is set to launch his debut album titled “Munenyasha” tomorrow at Full Gospel Church of God in Banket. Gracing the album launch is Pastor Josh Kays from Voice of Prayers who will be guest speaker. The 25-year-old singer believes the six-track album could be his breakthrough in the industry, adding music was his calling.“I started music when I was at Kuwadzana High School where I was in the choir. It was easy to love music because at home I used to play keyboards and, with a bit of encouragement from my mother, music grew in me.
“Honestly, music was a calling because I am a holder of a degree in Peace and Governance from Bindura University‚“ he said.
He composed his first single “Bako Rangu” in 2010 soon after his A Levels and recorded the song in 2015.
“I auditioned with Worship Addicts where I learnt a lot from the likes of Takesure Zamar and Nolan Kahonde. I rehearsed with the group, but I could not go for concerts because of school work. I then signed with In Sound Studios in Harare owned by Ian Ngwenya and that was the beginning of my solo career,” he said.
He said songs on the six-track album were inspired by his life experiences and verses from the Bible.
“I do music to worship God for who He is and the Bible acts as a reference point. I named the album ‘Munenyasha’ since it is a reflection of God’s grace because it came at a time when things were down for me‚“ he said.
Some of the tracks on the album include “Unyoro NeNyasha”‚ “Mutsvene” and “Moyo Wangu” that praises the goodness of the Lord.
“Unyoro NeNyasha” is a song that gives thanks to God for his influence in people’s lives. Makuyana said he is thankful to his family‚ his church and brother Stephen Nyoni for instilling in him confidence that anything is possible through God.
